Bringing your pet in for routine wellness exams is a crucial step in maintaining their health. Even if your dog or cat appears to be healthy, there could be problems lurking below the surface. Animals are experts when it comes to hiding signs of illness and injury until the problem becomes severe enough that they are no longer able to do so. By scheduling annual (or semi-annual) exams for your pet, you are doing your part to stay on top of their health and find out about potential problems while they are still relatively minor and easier to treat.
At Preventive Veterinary Medicine Clinic, we perform pet wellness exams in Pepperell and will do everything possible to help your pet enjoy a healthy, happy life.
When you bring your pet in for a checkup, we will check their weight and vital signs. The veterinarian will also conduct a thorough checkup and examine your dog or cat from the end of their snout to the tip of their tail. She will look in their eyes, ears, and mouth, palpate their abdomen, and manipulate certain joints to make sure they are functioning properly.
We will also go over your pet’s diet, exercise habits, behavior, and any changes you might have noticed. Depending on your pet’s species, breed, age, and lifestyle, we may also suggest preventive measures, like vaccinations, to help them stay healthy.
Blood tests are an important part of a wellness exam. Doing these tests allows us to establish baseline values for your pet and watch for signs that could indicate underlying health problems. Our goal is to detect problems before they become major and help your pet enjoy as many years by your side as possible.
